The 16^th October 2024, was a red letter day in the of history of the federal University of Education, kontagora. It was remarkable because it was the day the University was officially birth. The event was significant in that it attracted top Government functionaries within Niger State and Kontagora local Government Area as they converged at Col. Sani Bello Auditorium to witness the official flag off of the University, Among the dignities present at the ceremony were;

1. Hon. Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu       –   Former Minister of state for Education
2. Senator Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi   –   Minister of state for Agriculture
3. Dr. Isah Adamu Rep of his Excellency, farmer Governor Bago, the Executive Governor of Niger State
4. Prof Ibrahim Dantani Registrar of NECO
5. Hon Abubakar Umar- Hon Commissioner of Housing and Urban development Niger State
6. Dr. Adamu special Adviser to the Niger State Governor on Governance and reform
7. Hauwa Bako Kontagora: special Adviser to the Niger State Governor on supervision
8. Dr. Mamud Mamman special adviser to the Niger State Governor on Planning and Statistics
9. Mohammed Rufai: Special Adviser to the Niger State Governor on Sanitation
10. Hon. S. Power: Executive Chairman Kontagora Local Government Council
11. Alhaji Saidu Maina Kontagora
12. Alhaji Tunganwawa, former Treasurer, kontagora local government area and other dignities.

The Ministers who arrived at kontagora in a Private jet at 8:43 am were received by the community leaders, University Management, staff and students of Federal University of Education, Kontagora. The team moved straight to the Palace of His Royal Highness, the Sarkin Sudan, Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammadu Barau Muazu II who accorded the visitors Royal reception. In his delightful welcome remarks, the emir appreciated the Ministers. He described them as worthy ambassadors of kontagora emirate. He said the Ministers are the architect of the conversion of Federal College of Education to Federal University of Education Kontagora. He prayed for them and bestowed the title of Sodangi kontagora on the Honourable Minister of state for education.

Honourable Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu while appreciating His Royal Highness said he was impressed on his kind gesture and promised to do his best to bring more development to kontagora emirate. Similarly, Senator Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi thanked his Royal Highness and the entire people of kontagora for giving him the opportunity to serve as Senator for eight (8) years. He assured his Royal Highness of his loyalty and allegiance to the throne of the highly revered emir.

 The team later moved to the Col. Sani Bello Auditorium of the Federal University of Education, were they were welcomed by a mammoth crowd, including staff and student as well as union leaders. The Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Faruk Rashid Haruna expressed deep appreciation to the August visitors and the architect of transmutation of Federal College of Education Kontagora to Federal University of Education, kontagora. He described Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi as the man behind the success story of the University when he was in the Senate. He commended him for his resilience in ensuring that the bill for the upgrade was passed by the Senate. Prof. Faruk applauded the minister of State for Education for nurturing what Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi started noting that this has given the community a legacy that will remain indelible in the history of kontagora town.

 In his remarks, Senator Sabi Abdullahi stated that he was proud to be associated with this development. He remarked that education is the only tool that can bring development to a community and therefore felt proud that his effort had yielded positively. The Honourable minister of state for Education Hon Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu said that the metamorphosis of the Federal College of Education Kontagora to Federal University of Education Kontagora was a reflection of the manifestation of the change matra of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He stressed the need for individuals to take advantage of the University to develop themselves. He charged the staff of the University to develop themselves by acquiring more knowledge and qualifications to be able to fit into the University system.

Other speakers at the event included; Dr. Ibrahim Dantani who spoke on behalf of kontagora community, Comrade Dr. Attah Henry Attah who spoke on behalf of the University unions and the President of the SUG Comr. Victor Gabriel who spoke on behalf of the students.
